Counseling and Psychological Services
This position is responsible for performing a variety of functions addressing studentsí personal and educational needs. These functions include counseling services of a remedial, preventive and developmental nature for students who are experiencing psychological, social or emotional distress relating to a wide array of concerns. In keeping with State of Georgia law, individuals in this position should be licensed as a Psychologist in Georgia, or license-eligible as a Psychologist in Georgia and work with supervision under the direction of someone licensed and approved by the State Board of Examiners until licensure is attained.
Provides individual, couples and group counseling for students with personal or educational concerns.
Conducts diagnostic and psychological evaluations
Conducts structured seminars, groups, presentations and other outreach programs centered on personal and educational development in areas such as stress management, substance abuse prevention, relationship issues and sexual assault prevention.
Supports the centerís crisis intervention efforts, daytime and after-hours crisis consultation activities, on call operation and counselor-on-call activities.
Conducts 1013 evaluations (Certificate Authorizing Transport to Emergency Receiving Facility)
Consults with faculty, staff and other personnel including external agencies about the developmental and mental health needs of students and works cooperatively with them for the benefit of students and the institution.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology or Clinical Psychology. Licensed or license eligible in Georgia as a psychologist
Demonstrated ability to provide psychological services (clinical assessment, crisis intervention, psychological assessment, and individual and group psychotherapy)
Knowledge of the principles of student development and psychological theories,
Knowledge of clinical service delivery systems in college/university counseling centers.
Knowledge of professional ethical guidelines asocial with counseling practices
Knowledge of various laws (FERPA, HIPAA etc.) that impact counseling service provisions at university counseling centers.
Knowledge of diversity as it relates to counseling and outreach.
Expertise in providing mental health services to college/university students, with demonstrated skills in a commitment to provide clinical and outreach services to diverse populations.
Knowledge of psychological assessment measures.
Expertise in conducting psychological assessments and report writing.
Ability to plan, organize and implement long and short range goals.
Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
Intermediate level knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
Ability to maintain friendly, courteous professional and helpful attitude under stressful situations.
