The Counseling Center Director functions as a member of the University Health Services (UHS) Leadership team by providing leadership and direction to Counseling Center staff. The Director will provide and oversee individual/couples/group counseling and psychological services to students and consultation to faculty and staff. Additionally, the Director will: lead staff in establishing program priorities, goals and objectives; provide leadership in the design of program policies and procedures congruent with UHS and Student Affairs Strategic Plan and goals consistent with overall campus strategic planning; participate in new staff hiring; supervise and review the job performance of the Counseling Center professional and administrative staff; lead staff in establishing program priorities, goals and objectives and in program and behavioral outcomes measurements (quality management); prepare reports to document nature, number and quality of services provided, as needed; assure the department meets and exceeds national organizational standards, regulations and guidelines; lead decisions regarding Counseling Center programs that address primary and secondary prevention of mental health issues in the campus community; perform outreach activities on current relevant topics; provide and lead staff in the provision of mediation, conflict resolution and psychological/organizational consultation to students, faculty and staff; lead staff in developing and maintaining collaborative, team-oriented relationships with members of the campus community; consult with senior administrators, faculty, General Medicine staff and others as required and/or requested on a variety of subjects concerning campus mental health issues; provide and lead staff in the provision of emergency services and crisis intervention during hours of operation and develop effective relationships with off-campus mental health services; develop and coordinate comprehensive, campus-wide efforts for student mental health crisis response, with support and participation of Student Affairs; serve as campus mental health consultant on the Behavioral Management Team, led by the Dean of Students Office, to assist in identification of and intervention with students of concern; serve on appropriate department and campus-wide committees as appropriate; maintain membership in appropriate professional organizations; perform administrative responsibilities assigned by the Executive Director, such as studies on program delivery outcomes, developing standards of care and evaluating programs and services; and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Earned doctorate from an APA accredited program in clinical, counseling or professional psychology and an APA accredited internship; licensed as a Psychologist and Health Service Provider in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts; continuing education as mandated by Licensing Board, currently 20 CEUS/2 years; a minimum of five-seven years of directorship or other leadership responsibility or evidence of increasing administrative responsibility for a college/university counseling center or similar outpatient ambulatory care setting with a multi-disciplinary mental health staff; academic or executive education in leadership, management, public health, and/or business administration; experience providing training and development for a staff team; experience supervising and evaluating staff and setting group and individual goals; experience in crisis management, crisis intervention and case management; experience in promoting and enhancing diversity and to ongoing development of multicultural competence within a large institution; demonstrated commitment to best practices within the profession in general and college mental health in particular; demonstrated ability to functionally use standard office productivity software such as Outlook and Microsoft Office; ability to work collaboratively with other service providers and University personnel in addressing mental health issues; ability to develop and implement innovative and comprehensive programs, including goal setting, program evaluation, and assessment; ability to provide leadership and direct the progress of a department; ability to encourage others toward common and individual goals and to motivate others to follow; capacity to relate effectively and harmoniously with students, faculty, staff and administrators, within the organizational and administrative structure of a university counseling center, University Health Services and academic departments; excellent clinical evaluation, treatment, supervision and consultation skills; high level verbal and written communication skills.

Desired Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications: Experience providing services through the continuum of care (i.e., inpatient, partial hospital, intensive outpatient, and outpatient); experience with issues of commuter students and/or residential life; experience leading a department in accreditation process and maintenance, such as APA, AAAHC, JCAHO, or IACS; specialty training and experience in areas relevant to the UMass Boston student population; familiarity with an electronic medical record and a comprehensive assessment platform; involvement in efforts to increase student retention, persistence and graduation; history of academic appointment as faculty, with experience in mentoring students; history of scholarly work including research, publication, presentation, and/or teaching; training in disaster mental health.
