URI is a quintessential New England campus - rural in feeling yet close to the city of Providence, the state’s capital. Linked to the city, the beaches, and nearly every corner of the state by both rail and public transit, the campus is easily accessible from Boston and New York. The University enrolls about 13,000 undergraduate and 3,000 graduate students, and has a full-time tenure-track teaching faculty of approximately 600.
Rhode Island is the smallest state but has more than 400 miles of coastline. This is not all ocean frontage but it is notable that all Rhode Islanders live within a 30-minute drive to the Atlantic Ocean or Narragansett Bay. Downtown Boston is about an hour away by car or bus, and New York City is a three-and-a-half hour drive.
