Staff Psychologist/Practicum Coordinator

Oregon State University Counseling and Psychological Services, has an opening for a full-time, twelve-month, fixed-term position.

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) of Oregon State University is a dynamic, growing department, and is fortunate to have a new position open with an anticipated start date of September 1, 2013. CAPS is a valued and thriving agency within a strong Division of Student Affairs, and is exceptionally supported by the student body, whose fees entirely fund both the department and these new positions. We are accredited by IACS and host an APA-accredited internship.

We seek passionate, innovative, team-oriented candidates who are interested in joining a center that seeks to support OSUís mental health by working collaboratively to alter the individual, collective, and environmental factors that influence mental well-being. To succeed in these positions, candidates must have strong commitments to (1) holistic approaches to student and community development, (2) excellence in counseling and educational practices, (3) personal and professional multicultural competence, and (4) collaboration across the university community to promote mental health and (5) commitment to training future psychologists. CAPS works within a developmental philosophy and a brief therapy model, and candidates must demonstrate an ability to work with a diverse student body within these two frames.

Description: Responsibilities will include: clinical intake interviews; triage; brief individual, couples, and group therapy; diagnostic assessment; treatment planning; documentation of clinical work; leadership in community-based mental health promotion (e.g. leadership in mental health related community organizing/empowerment, the design/facilitation of interactive workshops and/or effective policy work); professional consultation; supervision and training for doctoral interns, practicum students and psychiatry residents; and collaborative work with other university units. A commitment to, demonstrated knowledge of, and experience with mental health promotion, multiculturalism and social justice is necessary.

As the Practicum Coordinator, responsibilities will include: leading group supervision, recruiting and interviewing new practicum students and providing administrative oversight and support over the course of the training year.

Required Qualifications:
-Earned doctorate in Counseling Psychology or Clinical Psychology
-Holds current OR license, or can be licensed in the state of Oregon as a Psychologist within 6 months of employment
-Advanced knowledge of supervision theory and demonstrated interest in training future mental health providers
-Demonstrated skill in community-based mental health promotion
-A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity

-Commitment to a developmental philosophy and a brief therapy model
-This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a Criminal History Check and be determined to be position qualified as per OAR 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in Youth Programs may have additional Criminal History Checks every 24 months.

Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to candidates who hold a doctoral degree and completed internship from an APA-accredited institution and hold a current license to practice as a psychologist and have experience working in a university counseling center.
