The counselor is responsible for counseling students and coordinating student development programs related to drug and alcohol abuse for the College. Through personal contact and coordination with other faculty and staff, the incumbent assists students in attaining their educational goals.
Provides individual and group counseling to students for personal development issues.
Provides counseling referrals as appropriate.
Actively participates in all counseling case conferences.
Provides crisis intervention services and serves as part of on-call rotation
Develops and implements student development programs designed to assist students in creating healthy lifestyles free from alcohol and drug dependence.
Participates in Summer Orientation during July of each year.
Maintains student counseling logs and contact records.
Collects and reports data necessary to assess effectiveness of counseling interactions as well as student programs.
Maintains an on-going dialog with the faculty, deans and college administrators in support of the student development programs.
Attends Student Affairs staff meetings as requested.
Facilitates access to counseling support for students concerning educational, career and personal issues.
Provides direction to staff and students in communicating, interpreting and administering College policies and procedures.
Maintains confidentiality of student records.
Assists in the development and implementation of the objectives and the goals of the Office of Counseling and Student Development.
Attends Utica College functions, including convocation and commencement and is supportive of College-sponsored events and programs.
Projects a positive attitude toward the position, department and College.
Completes all other duties as assigned by the Director of Counseling and Student Development.
Strong background in substance abuse counseling for drug and alcohol desired.
Experience in higher education counseling centers preferred.
