Salary Range

Position Description
Supervises and provides the overall management plan for the job assistance/employment counseling function and the co-op/internship program, works in collaboration with the Director of Counseling and Career Services to provide career development and job assistance services to clients. Supervises the part-time Internship/Co-Op Manager, the full-time Career Counselor, the part-time Career Assistant and the part-time Career Information Specialist. Assists with the training and supervision of Graduate-level Counseling Interns/Externs. Manages the Co-op and Job Fair budgets in conjunction with the Associate Director. Coordinates job assistance and career programming such as job fairs and on campus recruitment. Collaborates with business, industry and governmental agencies to locate, develop, and evaluate job sites for students, community residents and Co-op students. Administers career assessments and conducts feedback sessions. Assists with career infusion projects. Conducts career cluster workshops, career exploration workshops, pre-employment skills workshops as needed. Provides career counseling as well as job assistance counseling to students and community clients. Provides crisis counseling availability for 2-3 hours per week. May need to provide some personal counseling hours depending on the needs of the center. Attends Academic Support Counseling & Career Services Staff Meetings. Performs other duties as assigned.

WORK PERFORMED
X Coordinates the daily operation of the job assistance/Co-op/Internship placement function supervising staff and managing the co-op and job fair budgets in conjunction with the Director.
X Develops marketing plan and informational materials for the job assistance/Co-op/Internships functions.
X Designs surveys and computerized tracking systems to evaluate services and placement outcomes for the job placement and co-op functions.
X Develops CQI projects to improve the job placement/assistance function.
X Prepares monthly reports and collects and monitors statistics on the job placement rate and job assistance activities.
X Facilitates Faculty in incorporating career information or experiential learning within the curriculum.
X Conducts a series of pre/post employment skills workshops each semester.
X Support job development by developing contacts with potential employers in Howard County through conducting outreach activities to employers and attending employer functions.
X Plans and coordinates job/career fairs, and supervises employer recruitment visits and on- campus interview days.
X Functions as a liaison between the HCC Job Assistance/ Co-op and Internship Program and human resource personnel, agencies and community residents and local professional business organizations.
X Meets with clients on an individual basis to provide job assistance (resume preparation, interviewing skills, job search skills, and life long career management skills).
X Develops and delivers presentations for appropriate academic classes.
X Participates in High School job readiness programs (school to work).
X Assists with group career assessments (Strong, Myers-Briggs) and interpretations as needed.
X Provides Career Counseling and Personal/Crisis Counseling as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
M.A. degree in counseling, psychology, student services or related area required.

NCC, LCPC or CPC counselor certification and experience with crisis intervention required.

Three years career and employment counseling experience required with preferred experience within a college setting.

Knowledge of current job trends in the local, state, regional and Federal labor markets.

Knowledge of career assessments (Strong, Myers-Briggs) and career exploration (Sigi, Discover,
Career Net, etc.) software packages.

Knowledge of using the Internet/www in Job and Career exploration.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills to work one on one with clients, employers, and facilitating/conducting small and large group presentations.

Experience supervising other counselors, career/employment specialists preferred.

Experience working with diverse populations.

Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.

Regular attendance is a requirement of this job.

Desired Qualifications
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Access, Windows 95, PowerPoint, Internet and ccMail.

May need to work evening and weekend hours as needed and for special events.

Occasional weekend programs required.

Performs all duties while considering the impact of any actions on the colleges sustainability initiatives in the areas of environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and economic prosperity.
