Position Description
One Postdoctoral Fellow position is available for the 2013-2014 academic year. The position is based at the main FIU campus where the Fellow will provide individual, group, and couples therapy and crisis intervention services to enrolled FIU students. The Fellow presents outreach workshops and offers consultation to various university departments, including residence life. The Fellow also participates in a specialty track training experience. Specialty tracks currently include Diversity, Clinical Supervision and Training, Psychological Assessment, Career Counseling, Administration, and Research. CAPS offers time-limited, focused psychotherapy with individualized treatment plans reflecting cultural and developmental client needs.

The training philosophy emphasizes treatment within a matrix of cultural differences. The professional staff is comprised of 12 full-time licensed psychologists from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds who maintain a wide spectrum of theoretical and psychotherapeutic approaches. Counseling and Psychological Services is a member of the Association of Psychology Post-Doctoral and Internship Centers (APPIC) and is accredited by the International Association of Counseling Services (IACS). All professional activities and services are governed by Florida State Statutes and adhere to the American Psychological Association Ethical Principles and Code of Conduct.

Minimum Qualifications
The Post-Doctoral Fellow must have completed a doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology from an APA-accredited program and an APPIC-approved internship.

It operates at two locations, the Modesto A. Maidique Campus and the Biscayne Bay Campus, and is funded by the Student Health Fee. CAPS’ goal is to support the University’s academic mission by enhancing the social development and emotional well-being of students. Florida International University is located in Miami, Florida. Miami is a beautiful city famous for its tropical and cosmopolitan ambiance and is considered the gateway to the Caribbean and Latin American world. Citizens of Miami are very diverse in culture and background. Miami is situated in south Florida in a large metropolitan area with access to major tourist activities and beautiful beaches. It is close in proximity to other major population centers such as Ft. Lauderdale and Orlando, and the Florida Keys are a short drive away.
