Position Description
The University of Virginiaˇ¦s Department of Student Health seeks to hire a Director for its Center for Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS). CAPSˇ¦ primary mission is to respond to the mental health needs of students while providing consultation, education, outreach and crisis management to the broader University community. As a Center which offers the full continuum of outpatient mental health treatment, CAPS clinical staff is composed of 12 licensed psychotherapists including seven psychologists, three social workers, two professional counselor and four part-time psychiatric providers. In addition, CAPS has several therapists in training including psychology pre-doctoral interns, postdoctoral fellows, graduate psychology practicum students and psychiatry residents from the UVA residency program. This is a full-time Managerial and Professional University staff position with benefits reporting directly to the Executive Director of Student Health.

The Director:
„« Provides comprehensive psychiatric, diagnostic and developmental assessments of students.
„« Works collaboratively with staff to manage the daily operations of the Center, including supervising the care providers and professional support staff in CAPS and addressing patient, parent, and university administration quality of care concerns.
„« Collaborates with professional staff and the Executive Director of Student Health to develop strategies to assure prompt access to care, appropriate therapy processes and plans and timely referral of patients.
„« Participates in the Departmentˇ¦s leadership team (Directors Committee) on overall management, direction, and long range planning for Student Health, including assisting with accreditation (e.g. Joint Commission) initiatives, and ensuring that CAPS successfully completes triennial APA reaccreditation of the internship program.
„« Works with other CAPS professionals to supervise trainees including medical and graduate students, psychology interns, and psychiatry residents including direct clinical supervision and didactic lectures.

Minimum Qualifications
„« PhD or PsyD in clinical or counseling psychology
„« Licensure to practice as a psychologist in Virginia (or within six months of hire) is required
„« Training and experience in adolescent and young adult psychological care, brief insight oriented models of therapy, crisis intervention and referral
„« Demonstrated experience of 5-10 years of clinical service
„« Substantial training and supervision experience with doctoral trainees and staff, and administrative skills in managing a multidisciplinary psychological service a requirement
„« Strong organizational skills and exceptional interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills are needed

Desired Qualifications
„« Experience working in a college counseling center highly desirable
