University Description
Georgetown University, founded in 1789, is the oldest Catholic and Jesuit university in the nation. There are 17,000+ students in the Universitys five undergraduate schools (Georgetown College, the School of Foreign Service, Nursing and Health Studies, the McDonough School of Business, and the School of Continuing Studies), and three graduate divisions (Law, Medicine, and the Graduate School). The University also offers a bachelors degree in Foreign Service at its Education City campus in Doha, Qatar.

Region Description
Washington, D.C., the nations capital, is the center of governmental and political activity in the United States and an architecturally distinguished city with world class museums, readily identifiable national monuments and government buildings, and corporate and trade association headquarters. It has an excellent public transportation system.

The Georgetown business district is a bustling center of activity with substantial shopping opportunities, restaurants, clubs, and an active waterfront. The Georgetown residential area near the University retains an 18th and 19th century charm with historic homes, townhouses, and brick sidewalks. (Georgetown was a thriving Maryland tobacco port in the 1700s. When the District of Columbia was carved out of Maryland and Virginia, Georgetown was included within the Districts boundaries. The City of Washington, a separate village within the District, grew into and annexed Georgetown in the 1800s.)

Washington, D.C., is about two hours from Atlantic coast beaches and about two hours from the mountains in Virginia and West Virginia.
