Central Michigan University’s Counseling Center provides comprehensive short term counseling services to assist students with a wide range of behavioral, developmental and mental health concerns in support of personal growth and academic success.
We seek a skilled generalist counselor for a non-teaching fixed-term faculty position beginning August 19, 2013 and ending May 4, 2014, with possibility of renewal. Counselors carry a 65% clinical case load.
Primary duties include counseling, referral services and consultation. Secondary duties may include Counseling Center committee membership, outreach activities, and clinical supervision of interns or limited licensed faculty counselors. Counselors provide after hours on call services for approximately 4 weeks during the academic year.
Salary is commensurate with qualifications. Full benefits including retirement will be provided.
Masters, specialist or doctoral degree in counseling or clinical psychology, counseling, social work or related field
Limited license with eligibility for full licensure in Michigan
Demonstrated competence in working within a multicultural framework with under serviced or minority populations
Demonstrated clinical skills related to short term counseling, crisis intervention, outreach and consultation services that address typical college student developmental and mental health concerns
Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and collaboratively within a team oriented environment
Strong commitment to workplace integrity and professional ethics
Full Michigan licensure
Prior experience in a university counseling center setting
Central Michigan University is one of the nationís 100 largest public universities and the fourth largest in Michigan, with more than 20,000 students on its Mount Pleasant campus and another 7,000 enrolled online and at more than 50 locations across North America. CMU offers academic programs at the undergraduate, masters, specialist and doctoral levels. CMU also has established a college of medicine, which is actively recruiting students for its inaugural class that will start in the summer of 2013.
The Counseling Center administratively is part of the Enrollment and Student Services Division, however, counselors are faculty members. The Counseling Center is currently staffed with four Regular Faculty Counselors, four Fixed-Term Faculty Counselors and one Sexual Aggression Dedicated Counselor. The Counseling Center also serves as a practicum site for doctoral and masters level student interns.
