This position facilitates the provision of reasonable accommodations for university students with learning disabilities, mental health, chronic medical conditions and attentional disorders (AD/HD) to ensure equal access to the programs, services and activities of the institution. This position will carry a case load consisting of students with these disabilities.
The Accommodation Specialist assists faculty and staff in developing fair and effective instructional methods and adaptations to provide classroom access for this student population. This position may also participate in campus-wide training activities for students, faculty and staff on disability issues, rights and responsibilities under the law, and advocacy regarding reasonable accommodation in a post-secondary environment.
This position will participate in program development initiatives to serve the primary populations of McBurney students including but not limited to teaching for credit courses, developing educational effectiveness programs and promoting community building activities and events. This position may also supervise student employees and pre-masterís interns.
- Masterís degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, Counseling Psychology, Social Work, Special Education or a related field.
- Two or more years of direct experience working with individuals with psychological and learning disorders including but not limited to mood, anxiety or autism spectrum disorders, learning disability/dyslexia, and Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder.
