Position Description
Brown University seeks a dynamic, experienced, and collaborative administrator to serve as the Director of Psychological Services. The Director of Psychological Services provides the vision for and leadership of mental health services on campus, and advises university officials, faculty, and colleagues on situations and policies with a mental health component. The Director is responsible for insuring that services meet the needs of undergraduate, graduate, and medical students while supporting the academic mission of the Division of Campus Life and the University.

Specifically, the Director is responsible for managing the delivery of all mental health services provided by the Department of Psychological Services, including clinical assessment, crisis intervention, brief psychotherapy, 24-hour on-call coverage, outreach, and initial response for sexual assault cases. The Director is responsible for a 16-person staff comprised of an Associate Director, 5 FTE Psychotherapists, 1 FTE Psychiatrists, Office Manager and 2 FTE support staff. The Director provides some direct clinical services to students and manages urgent situations as they arise.
The University offers a distinctive academic program, and this position represents an opportunity to work with a talented and select student body. Under the leadership of a new President, Brown is embarking on a strategic planning process to determine future initiatives. We are looking for someone capable of working with faculty, students, and colleagues as the Division of Campus Life and the University develop and advance institutional priorities.

Minimum Qualifications
Applicants should have a doctoral level degree in Psychology or other relevant clinical area and be licensed or license-eligible in Rhode Island with a minimum of five years of clinical and administrative experience in a mental health setting. Work experience must include college counseling and supervision of a professional staff, as well as demonstrated ability to work effectively in a culturally diverse campus community.

Desired Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess a sophisticated understanding of the interactions between campus life, university policies, and mental health issues, along with strong experience and interest in working with the college-age population. Good clinical and supervisory skills are essential. Keen judgment and knowledge of campus mental health and student development issues are important. Given changes in federal regulations and shifting expectations for campuses, this is a challenging time to work on university mental health issues, and applicants should be able to demonstrate their familiarity with best practices for campus counseling services.
