Position Description
JOB PURPOSE
Oversee, assist with and advise the Director in the day-to-day administrative, clinical and training operations of Counseling and Psychological Services. Manage department personnel to ensure the effective delivery of services within established governmental guidelines and professional codes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Participate in departmental strategic planning and discussions regarding policy and budget issues.

Oversee clinical service delivery, policy and training protocols including peer review.

Assist with searches, new employee orientation and all other aspects of staff development and management.

Provide administrative and clinical supervision to staff to assure the ethical delivery of all counseling services in accordance with federal and state guidelines and professional ethical codes.

Train and supervise graduate trainees in the provision of psychological services and consultation.

Serve as Acting Director in the Director’s absence

Assist in writing departmental and administrative reports.

Assist the Director in conducting staff retreats and providing training opportunities

Assist the Director in the implementation of technology to improve delivery of services, utilizing tracking and promotion of all CAPS services and activities.

Provide direct services to student clients in the form of individual counseling, group counseling and educational programming.

Provide consultation services for faculty, staff, parents, students and others.

Represent CAPS with professional demeanor at campus-wide events

Maintain counseling records in accordance with established CAPS policies and procedures.

Attend staff meetings and group supervision.

Participate in departmental and/or university-wide committee work and special projects as assigned.

Maintain a current knowledge base and clinical license by attending professional development programs.

Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION
Doctoral degree in Clinical or Counseling Psychology or closely related field or Master or Doctoral degree in Clinical Social Work. The successful candidate must have a current clinical license in any state and be eligible for Michigan licensure.

EXPERIENCE
The successful candidate will have a minimum of five years experience in a university college counseling center

Experience providing individual, couples and group mental health counseling services within a college setting.

Experience meeting the needs of clients from diverse populations, including non-traditional students and student veterans.

MANGEMENT SKILLS: Strong administrative, clinical and assessment skills.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational and leadership skills.

TEAMWORK: Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

BUSINESS KNOWLEDGE: Clear understanding of developmental issues facing college students
