Clinical Fellowship - Advanced Traineeship

Position Description: Clinical Fellows receive advanced clinical training and supervision in university mental health services and brief therapy in a large, multidisciplinary, multicultural counseling center. Fellows are provided with intensive individual supervision, weekly case conferences, clinical seminars, and opportunities for case consultations with senior staff. Several 12-month positions are available beginning August 1st. Interviews will be conducted by phone.
The Ohio State University Counseling and Consultation Service provides a full range of mental health services to a heterogeneous university community. Counseling and Consultation Service is comprised of senior staff professionals representing the disciplines of psychology, social work, counseling, and psychiatry. We also train interns, fellows, residents, and practicum students in each of these disciplines. Strong emphasis is placed on the interdependence of staff as working professionals with diverse interests and philosophies.
Minimum requirements include:
1. Completion of a Ph.D./Psy.D. in clinical or counseling psychology, from an APA-accredited program preferred (consideration also given to ABD candidates who have proposed), OR MSW degree, working toward independent licensure, OR master’s degree in counseling/counselor education or related field, working toward independent licensure. Two years of related experience is a plus.
2. A supervised internship or equivalent work in a university counseling center, mental health agency, or related professional setting.
3. General skills, knowledge, and experience in individual, couples, and group counseling and psychotherapy; assessment; multicultural issues; and crisis intervention.
Counseling and Consultation Service (CCS) is a department within the Office of Student Life with the purpose of providing counseling and mental health services to the Ohio State University campus. The mission of CCS is to promote the personal well-being and academic success of students by providing comprehensive individual and group mental health services, psychoeducational prevention and outreach programming. The staff includes twenty-three senior staff (psychologists, psychiatrists, professional counselors, and social workers), three contract staff (including a part-time dietician), twenty trainees, and ten support staff.
Counseling and Consultation Service is housed on the 4th floor of the state-of-the-art Younkin Success Center. The Success Center was designed to provide a variety of offices to support students’ success at Ohio State. The other offices comprising the Success Center are: 1) Career Connection (a centralized career counseling office and a Career Resource Center); 2) the Student Athlete Support Services office (SASSO); 3) the University Center for the Advancement of Teaching (an educational teaching and learning support office); and 4) the Walter E. Dennis Learning Center, which includes a state of the art academic learning lab.
The Center also operates a satellite clinic on campus in conjunction with the Counselor Education and School Psychology programs. The satellite clinic is open full time during the academic year.
