Position Description
Doctoral level psychologist and counselors at MSU SCS provide direct clinical services to MSU students, collaborate with other staff in provision of services which may include clinical supervision for licensure, serve the department, division and university through consultation and participation on committees, and provide outreach as requested. The primary role of direct clinical services includes individual, relationship,and group counseling; assessment and clinical evaluation of students and treatment planning; and crisis intervention. Additional service to the campus community may include psychoeducation, training, and crisis response. The candidate should have experience providing individual and group clinical services, a Student Affairs orientation and be enthusiastic about working as a part of a multi-disciplinary team.

Minimum Qualifications
1. Doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology, Counselor Education, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy or a related field;
2. High ethical and professional standards;
3. Must be currently licensed or be license-eligible within six months of employment;
4. A student-centered philosophy; experience working with individuals from different social, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds;
5. Demonstrated expertise/experience in one or more of the following: eating disorders,
substance abuse, Veterans’ issues, or crisis management
Skill set to include:
a. Crisis intervention and crisis management
b. Generalist practice knowledge and expertise
c. Provision of services to include individual, group, and couples counseling
d. Conducting workshops and psycho-educational programming
e. Provision of consultation and training for faculty, administrators, residence staff and other student service personnel regarding psychological development and behavioral health issues
f. Excellent oral and written communication skills
g. Experience maintaining clinical case files in accordance with legal, ethical and professional standards
6. Ability to serve as liaison to academic and student affairs departments
7. Service orientation through committee involvement in Student Counseling Services, the Division of Student Affairs, and the University
8. Ability to share rotating evening and weekend emergency consultation and response

Desired Qualifications
1. Doctoral degree and a minimum of three years experience; licensed
2. Experience, education or training in a university counseling center setting
3. Understanding of and ability to work within a student development perspective
4. Demonstrated ability to consult with and collaborate with University personnel and off-campus mental health and psychiatric services
5. Experience working with substance abuse, Veterans’ issues, eating disorders, or crisis management in both individual and group settings
6. Crisis management experience
