University Description
Dickinson College, one of our nations leading liberal arts colleges, was established in 1783, less than a week after the Treaty of Paris had officially ended the Revolution and guaranteed international recognition of the United States of America. The College was founded by Dr. Benjamin Rush, signer of the Declaration of Independence, and named in honor of John Dickinson, penman of the American Revolution and a signer of the Constitution. It is Benjamin Rushs revolutionary vision for American education that still guides Dickinson today as we prepare young people, by means of a useful education in liberal arts and sciences, for engaged lives of citizenship and leadership in the service of society.
