Position Description
University Counseling and Psychological Services (UCPS) at Lehigh University is seeking to fill a full-time, 12-month post-doctoral residency position (designated a Research Associate position by human resources on our campus), starting August 1, 2013 and ending July 31, 2013. The residency experience will provide an entry level professional, supervised experience necessary for licensure as a psychologist, and is designed to provide generalist training highly applicable to a university based setting. In addition, there will be research and program evaluation opportunities; experiences with alcohol and other drug (AOD) assessment and intervention services; and risk assessment and risk management challenges.

The primary focus of UCPS services is to provide culturally sensitive and empirically supported mental health services to an undergraduate and graduate academic community. These services include group psychotherapy, relatively short-term individual psychotherapy, consultation and walk-in and on-call crisis intervention. In addition, the center serves several other functions on campus, including the provision of alcohol and other substance use treatment as well as sport psychology and peak performance training. UCPS has a long history of providing pre-doctoral and post-doctoral training, including an established APPIC pre-doctoral internship program and is much appreciated by and well integrated into the LU campus community. The UCPS staff consists of five full-time senior staff members, two pre-doctoral interns, two graduate assistants, two graduate practicum trainees, a consulting psychiatrist, and two full-time support staff members.

Primary Responsibilities:
Provide direct clinical services including individual and group psychotherapy, assessment, and crisis intervention.
Provide consultation and outreach services to students, faculty, and staff.
Participate in some aspects of AOD assessment, treatment and programming.
Assist with research and program evaluation efforts.
Assist with crisis management and on-call services.
Introduce and engage in area of special interest if appropriate and applicable to center.

Minimum Qualifications
Applicants are required to have completed their pre-doctoral internship prior to the start date, and should have completed all coursework towards their degree in counseling or clinical psychology. Excellent applicants finalizing completion of a doctoral dissertation will be considered.

Desired Qualifications
Preference will be given to applicants with prior experience working in college counseling centers, and with interest and experience in group work and peak performance or sport psychology; providing outreach or specialty services in an area of interest; and/or in research or program evaluation.

The city of Bethlehem is a part of the picturesque Lehigh Valley - - semi rural, semi urban - - with great restaurants, running/biking paths, and art venues. It is ideally located 75 miles from New York and 50 miles from Philadelphia, as well as having proximity to major East Coast cities, including Boston and Washington, D.C.
