Position Description
The Assistant Director of Counseling Services is responsible for the provision of psychological/ counseling services for students. Responsibilities include providing individual/group counseling and crisis intervention to students, training to Residence Life and other staff members, and consultation to various members of the SMCM community; participating in the development and implementation of programs, workshops, and outreach presentations. Occasional evening and weekend work is required. The Assistant Director reports to the Director of Counseling Services.
Minimum Qualifications
Masters degree in counseling, psychology, social work or related field with 3 years of post-licensure college counseling center experience; a commitment to a developmental philosophy; experience working with college-aged population; and excellent communication skills.
Desired Qualifications
Doctorate in Counseling or Clinical Psychology, licensed or licensed-eligible in Maryland, with at least one year post degree work experience in a counseling center; experience working with gender issues, eating disorders, sexual assault/trauma recovery in a college setting; experience in one or more of the following areas: personality disorders, substance abuse, and persistent mental illness; and computer literacy, including experience with electronic scheduling and filing. Enthusiasm for programming and workshop presentation is a definite plus.
