Salary Range

Position Description
California Lutheran University’s Student Counseling Services center
(SCS) is accepting applications for a Postdoctoral Fellowship in professional psychology for the 2013-2014 academic year. The Fellowship requires approximately a 9-month, 5 day per week commitment. The Fellowship is designed to enable the accrual of the California-required 1500 hours of post-doctoral supervised professional experience.

Postdoctoral Fellows at SCS receive advanced clinical training and supervision in both short-term and longer-term treatment approaches. The psychotherapy the Fellow provides is not guided by the principles of any religious tradition other than whatever beliefs the client might seek to integrate into the clinical work. The bulk of the Fellow’s work is in individual psychotherapy (20-30 hours per week) but in this communal center Fellows also engage in intake assessment, crisis intervention, quality assurance consultation (involving management issues touching on clinical and ethical matters), couples counseling, delivering workshops, group therapy, and special projects as assigned (e.g. website updates, development of marketing materials. etc.).
The SCS mission statement provides additional information for prospective Fellows:
The mission of Student Counseling Services at California Lutheran University is to prepare students to become leaders in the global community. We endeavor to do this by helping students to find ways to enhance their own personal, social, educational and career development. We also seek to assist members of the campus community. Finally, consistent with the Lutheran tradition, we intend our work to serve the mental health professions and the broader community in an effort to raise levels of social justice, compassion and emotional health and well-being.

The Student Counseling Services center at CLU resides in a converted, wheelchair accessible home situated on the CLU campus, which itself is situated within a residential community. There are 6 individual/couples/group therapy rooms equipped with video recording capability.

As university staff members, the full-time Fellow enjoys health care (including dental coverage), full access to a pristine state-of-the-art fitness and recreation facility, library privileges, and free parking. In addition, the Student Health Center provides certain health care services such as flu shots for a nominal fee to university faculty and staff.

There are 3 weeks of paid vacation leave, best taken between the Fall and Spring semesters (12/21/13-1/10/14). Full-time Fellows are also allotted 6 days of paid sick leave for the term of the Fellowship.

Minimum Qualifications
Strongest preference will be granted candidates who have successfully completed an APA accredited internship and who will graduate from an APA accredited Ph.D. program in Counseling Psychology. Well-qualified candidates who completed comparable but different clinically-oriented doctoral programs are encouraged to apply. Candidates need not have graduated at the commencement of the Fellowship.

Desired Qualifications
Though not mandatory, experience with ADHD assessment, biofeedback and other technology that assists relaxation practice and training and various forms of assessment are all very helpful. Please note: applicants from out of state are encouraged to apply and will receive equal consideration, although an in-person interview will be required for any finalist and the expenses associated with that cannot be reimbursed.
