Student Health and Psychological Counseling Center

The Student Health and Psychological Counseling Center is a multidisciplinary professional clinic environment serving the developmental, health and psychological needs of a highly diverse student population. Counselors provide short term individual, couples and group therapy, initial screenings/intakes of students seeking services, crisis intervention, outreach activities, prevention education, consultation to the campus community regarding mental health issues that affect the well-being of students, and are active in their profession and service to the University and community. Providing clinical supervision and training of pre- and post-graduate trainees may also be required at times.

Applicants must have: a doctoral or masterís degree in counseling or clinical psychology, marriage and family therapy or social work; a California professional license or eligible for licensure at time of appointment; strong clinical skills and experience with time limited therapy models; knowledge of developmental issues of college student populations; demonstrated sensitivity to cultural issues and competence in addressing the counseling needs of diverse clients; experience in providing individual, couples and group psychotherapy; and knowledge of and experience with practice models and policies/procedures related to candidateís professional mental health field.
Preferred candidates will meet the above requirements of excellence in clinical/counseling practice and have one or more of the following: licensed to practice in California; expertise working with veterans, substance abuse, or African American college students; fluent in Spanish; experience in clinical supervision and training of pre- and post-graduate trainees; exceptional presentation and outreach skills; or expertise in suicide prevention and intervention programming.
