Position Description
The Student Health and Counseling Services at Northeastern Illinois University (http://www.neiu.edu/~saffairs/SHCS) is in the process of growth and transformation. The counseling and health services has recently integrated to form a comprehensive physical and mental health unit staffed with staff psychologists and health practitioners.

The Director of Student Health and Counseling Services reports to the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs, and is responsible for the design, implementation, strategic planning, vision and evaluation of comprehensive student health and counseling services for university students. The Director leads a department of staff psychologists, trainees and health practitioners who provide individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, clinical training, health care and prevention services, and educational outreach programming. The Director will provide clinical services to the university community and will focus on establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships with and consultations to, university students, faculty, staff and other constituent groups in support of student success.


Minimum Qualifications
The successful candidate must possess a doctorate degree in Clinical or Counseling Psychology, and have extensive experience in public health practice (Master degree in Public Health preferred). Active licensure in the State of Illinois within three months of hire is required. Minimum of five years of experience in managing health/counseling services. Demonstrated experience in provision of counseling services and training and supervising counseling and health care staff. Active experience with emergency management and/or behavioral/healthcare intervention activities. Skills in organizing and administering a comprehensive health promotion program to meet the needs of a diverse university community. Strong organizational skills and experience coordinating and implementing health and counseling services is a must. Exceptional interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills are needed. Experience in an urban commuter college or university is preferred.
