12 month full time position in the Counseling Center, a unit of Student Health and Counseling, which reports directly to the Director of Counseling. Responsibilities include the following:
„X Provides individual and group counseling for a variety of personal, social, educational and vocational concerns;
„X Offers psychoeducational workshops, addressed to specific needs such as study skills, assertiveness training, stress management, and so forth;
„X Conducts client assessment of personal and vocational characteristics for the purpose of assisting client decision-making and problem solving;
„X Develops and presents outreach programs;
„X Provides crisis intervention and management, including on-call rotation;
„X Provides student advocacy, particularly with reference to referrals to various community agencies or to other sections of the university;
„X Provides consultations to faculty and staff and other personnel inside and outside the University on student issues;
„X Fulfills administrative duties as assigned, including serving on Counseling Center, Student Health and Counseling Services, Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management or University-wide committees;
„X Provides some supervision and training of master¡¦s level graduate practicum students and interns as assigned;
„X Participates in professional development experiences on a regular basis;
„X Performs related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, skills and abilities
„X Considerable knowledge of individual and group counseling methods and procedures;
„X Demonstrated knowledge of principles of program development, consultation and outreach;
„X Personal attributes that facilitate effective interpersonal relations and the demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of students and student organizations, faculty, staff, administrators and parents;
„X Knowledge of developmental characteristics of late adolescence and young adulthood and the unique difficulties confronting individuals in these stages of life;
„X Ability to express oneself clearly and effectively in oral and written form;
Masters degree required (doctorate preferred) in counseling or clinical psychology, mental health counseling or social work, with completion of appropriate course work and training in theories of personality, abnormal psychology, human development and alcohol/drug abuse and dependency;
„X Experience with group counseling, men¡¦s concerns, and/or multiculturalism.
„X At least two years of clinical experience working in a college counseling center or mental health facility (including practica or internship).
„X Eligibility for licensure in the state of North Carolina as a mental health professional.
