Position Description
Clark College is currently accepting applications for a tenure-track Counselor/Human Development Instructor. This is a 12-month, 173-day contract spread out over the fiscal year; however, the 2012-2013 contract will be modified to fit the current fiscal year.
Position Responsibilities
Responsibilities include providing personal/mental health, career, educational, and crisis counseling that promotes student success; teaching one Human Development course per quarter; providing career inventory interpretations; assisting with college-wide retention efforts including academic standards processes; and serving as a consultant to faculty/staff regarding student behavioral issues.
Other Responsibilities
Serve as counseling/mental health representative on the Behavioral Intervention Team.
Respond as part of a crisis intervention team.
Participate in decision-making processes by taking part in department and college committees.
Work collaboratively with colleagues.
Pursue professional development to enhance counseling skills and teaching and learning techniques.
General Faculty Responsibilities
Instruct classes utilizing techniques and knowledge of the discipline that facilitate student learning.
Advise and assist students in educational and career development.
Participate in decision-making processes by taking part in department and college committees.
Work collaboratively with colleagues, businesses, advisory committees, and other educational partners.
Pursue professional development.
Strive to enhance teaching and learning techniques.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree from an accredited institution in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology or related field.
Three years professional counseling experience providing mental health/personal, career, educational and crisis counseling sessions.
Desired Qualifications
Eligibility for licensure in Washington as a mental health counselor, marriage and family counselor, or social worker.
Experience using brief therapy interventions.
Experience working with Veterans.
Experience and/or course work in chemical dependency counseling.
College level teaching experience in the Human Development area (assertiveness, college success, career planning, etc.)
Bilingual skills and multicultural training.
Experience serving underrepresented students.
Understanding of and commitment to the mission of the community college.
Demonstrated commitment to student learning.
Experience using a variety of teaching and assessment techniques - including the use of technology - that enhance student success.
Willingness to participate in a variety of departmental and campus activities.
Ability to work well with people of all ages from academically, culturally, and economically diverse backgrounds.
Knowledge and/or experience with curriculum and teaching strategies to meet the needs of diverse student populations.
Willigness to take a leadership fole in areas of educational and professiona exprtise.
Ability to work well as a member of a team.
