Staff Psychologist/Therapist (Temporary Full-Time)

The Staff Psychologist provides mental health care in the form of psychotherapy (assessment, diagnosis and treatment through individual, couples and group therapy), crisis intervention, training/outreach, and consultation to the students of the Claremont Colleges. These duties are preformed within the framework of authorized policies and protocols providing mental health care to students at the Claremont University Consortium Monsour Counseling and Psychological Services. This position reports to the Director of MCAPS.
•Perform psychological assessment intakes for a student population
•Provide individual and couples short term psychotherapy treatment to this college population
•Provide modules/workshops in different topics of interest to the Claremont College student population
•Provide On-Call crisis duties including being part of the MCAPS on call rotation (weekly and weekends), conducting crisis assessments, providing crisis appointments for the students at the Claremont Colleges.
•Participate and perform trainings/outreach to student leaders, staff, administrative officials of the Claremont Colleges in issues regarding psychological/emotional issues
•Consult with other MCAPS staff, professionals, students, administrators, parents, college officials (with proper releases) regarding clinical issues/situations
This is a temporary position for 22 weeks (5.2 months) replacing a staff member going on leave.
HOURS: 8:30 am-5 pm; Monday through Friday. Hours may vary due to the needs of the Consortium or the Student Health and Counseling Services.
This is an exempt, full time, temporary, about 22 weeks/ 5.2 months (October 22 through April 19) position. This position is not benefits eligible.
EDUCATION: A minimum of Doctoral level training as a psychologist or counselor, or the equivalent.
EXPERIENCE: Clinical experience in a university counseling center preferred. Clinical experience with college-aged clients (18-25) required.
LICENSURE: An active California License to practice therapy is preferred.
Doctorate in counseling or psychology. Licensed or licensed eligible in the state of California preferred.
Experience in assessment, diagnosis and implementation of interventions for depression, anxiety, alcohol/drugs abuse and developmental concerns frequently faced by college-aged students.
Demonstrated ability to manage the fluctuation of clinical caseload and maintain appropriate records in a timely manner.
Sensitivity to and embracement of individuals that represent cultural, religious, ethnic and lifestyle diversity.
Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills. Ability to work as a team member within the Wellness Center and throughout campus.
Understanding of and/or experiences in residential, liberal arts college environment.
Located at the foot of the San Gabriel Mountains in the city of Claremont, California (population 36,500), 35 miles east of Los Angeles, the Claremont Colleges are a geographically contiguous set of five top-ranked liberal arts undergraduate colleges and two graduate institutions, uniquely configured to support and encourage interdisciplinary study. The Monsour Counseling and Psychological Services, a part of The Colleges’ supporting organization, the Claremont University Consortium, supports all seven colleges.
Claremont is located in Southern California in Los Angeles County.
