Position Description
This is a full-time, 12 month, term position. This clinician will provide short term individual, couples and group therapy, initial screenings/intakes of students seeking services, crisis intervention, outreach activities, prevention education, consultation to the campus community regarding mental health issues that affect the well-being of students, and service to the University, their profession, and community. Providing clinical supervision and training for pre and post-graduate trainees is also required as assigned. To function well in this position, the person needs to:

oBe committed to a proactive student development perspective involving an active relationship with the campus community.

oBe multi-culturally competent, possessing the ability and skills to work with diverse populations (ethnic, LGBTQ, gender, disability, etc.).

oHave experience in supervision and training demonstrating a commitment to a developmental philosophy toward both clients and trainees.

oBe available and willing to attend occasional evening or weekend activities.

Minimum Qualifications
Master-level degree in a clinical mental health field.

Licensed, currently in process of becoming licensed, or eligible to apply for licensure as a clinical mental health provider in Kansas: Licensed Psychologist, Temporary-Licensed Psychologist, Licensed Clinical Psychotherapist (LCP), Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LSCSW), Licensed Clinical Addiction Counselor (LCAC), Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC).

Minimum of one year post-graduate experience in the mental health field.

Desired Qualifications
Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Counseling or Clinical Psychology or equivalent mental health field from an APA-accredited program.

A minimum of one year of experience on a college or university setting as a therapist with a college population.

Expertise in one or more of these areas: men’s issues, alcohol & drug issues, clinical assessment.

Experience in brief/solution focused therapy techniques.

Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively on interdisciplinary team, to take initiative, and to be flexible in response to developing demands and challenges of the position.

Be team-oriented, “user-friendly” to our staff, students and the university community.

Have the ability to handle spontaneous work demands while undertaking projects that require advance planning.

Have proficiency in oral and written communication skills and leading group discussions.

Good, basic computer skills and comfort with electronic record-keeping.

University Description
Kansas State University Counseling Services is a comprehensive counseling service located in a comfortable, attractive facility. We have an interdisciplinary staff of 20 people including therapists, psychologists, and psychology interns. We are an APA accredited training site for pre-doctoral psychology interns and a practicum site for students in the MFT program at
K-State. The service includes an alcohol and other drug prevention program, a stress management/biofeedback laboratory, and a career development program that includes teaching of credit classes. The mission of the service is to support the educational goals of students through the process of decision-making, crisis intervention, and personal skill building.
