UMB Student Counseling Center Clinician
The University of Maryland Baltimore (UMB) is seeking an experienced clinician –Social Worker or Psychologist – for a full-time, 12-month position in its Student Counseling Center (SCC). UMB’s Schools of Dentistry, Law, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, and Social Work provide academic programs to approximately 6,000 students – 80% of whom are in post-baccalaureate programs. The SCC provides direct service to UMB students and outreach, training, and consultation services to the University community, including triage and crisis intervention.
At the SCC, clinicians provide psychosocial evaluations; time limited (12 sessions or less) solution-focused counseling using cognitive behavioral therapy; routine and emergency consultations to students and campus personnel regarding on-campus mental health concerns; and outreach and education to the university community.
• Identification and evaluation of students’ psychosocial condition and needs and determination of (determines course of) treatment course, including referral.
• Provide short-term (12 sessions or less) individual, group, and couple counseling, including crisis intervention.
• Provide education on emotional and mental health and other wellness related topics to the University community.
• Participate in consultation and work effectively as a member of the treatment team.
• Manage a full caseload.
• Perform clinical chart reviews and generates electronic clinical notes on evaluations and counseling sessions, reports and other accountability measures.
Education and Licensure:
Social workers must have an MSW and (LCSW-C) licensure in Maryland.
Psychologists must have a PhD in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an APA-accredited program and licensed or be licensure eligible in the State of MD as a psychologist.
Five years experience providing assessment and direct counseling using cognitive behavioral treatment with individuals.
Experience in a college or university counseling center working with issues pertinent to a diverse, professional and graduate student population.
Experience working within an interdisciplinary team setting.
Experience working with to substance abuse and/or eating disorders is highly desirable.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Understanding and knowledge of best practices in college and university counseling services.
Ability to work in high pressure clinical environment which may require flexibility of hours.
Skill in application of direct counseling services.
Skill in interviewing techniques and consultative approaches.
Ability to use measurable and verifiable information for making sound decisions or judgments.
Ability to meet situations with tact, diplomacy, understanding, and fairness.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of subjects and information obtained.
Ability to work as part of a team.
Ability to work with university students from diverse ethnic, racial, and socio-economic backgrounds.
Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.
Ability to maintain and complete case management notes in a timely (and complete) manner.
