Harvey Mudd College is seeking an Associate Dean for Student Health and Wellness in the Student Affairs Office. This is a full-time, 10-month, benefits eligible position that reports to the Vice President of Student Affairs/Dean of Students. Starting salary is dependent upon qualifications. Summary of Job Responsibilities:
The Associate Dean for Student Health and Wellness provides an on-campus presence devoted to the enhancement of student health and wellness in cooperation with other professionals in Student Affairs and with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. The Associate Dean is a member of the Dean of Students staff, providing support for student groups and activities. Responsibilities are varied and include providing one-on-one or group support to students around issues related to emotional health; developing, implementing and evaluating a health and wellness education program with a focus on alcohol and drug use, sexual assault prevention and response, stress management, and bystander intervention; serving as the primary liaison with The Claremont Colleges’ Student Health and Counseling Services (SHACS); and identifying, coordinating, and conducting appropriate training programs for faculty and staff in the area of student emotional health.
Summary of Qualifications:
• Education: Master’s degree in a relevant field.
• Experience: Minimum of one-year relevant employment in an emotional/mental health counseling capacity, preferably with young adults; demonstrated success in working with diverse college student populations. Experience working with young adults/adults, especially on issues of substance abuse, stress management, and eating disorders is desirable.
• Licenses: Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and driving record acceptable to the College’s automobile insurance carrier; State counselor/psychologist license preferred but not required.
• Other: Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communications skills and the ability to work effectively in a professional team environment; expertise with a psychological or other emotional health framework for assessing students’ emotional health needs and developing appropriate programs; demonstrated skills in effective counseling, outreach and programming; personal integrity and ability to interact successfully with individuals with varying abilities, backgrounds, interests and beliefs; ability to organize and prioritize projects; demonstrated ability to interpret and communicate college policy and other laws, rules, and regulations governing student matters especially residential issues; and ability to work effectively and collaboratively with colleagues in the Dean of Student’s Office, SHACS, College constituents, and staff from the other Claremont Colleges.
