Asst. Dean of Students/Director of Counseling and Disablity Support Services

As Assistant Dean and Director the candidate will provide vision and leadership for areas of responsibility including establishing annual goals and overseeing all programs and services provided by the Center. They will be responsible for directing and supervising the staff which includes the Senior Coordinator of Disability Services, two licensed Counselors, Substance Abuse Prevention Counselor and an Administrative Assistant. The Director will oversee and participate in the development and assessment of counseling services, the provision of accomodations for students with disabilities and programs designed to promote the healthy development of students and enhance their academic potential. The Director will develop and maintain collaborative relationships with local hospitals and other local mental health agencies as well as with on campus administration, parents, and other external constituents.
Major responsibilities include: Management of office operations including developing and monitoring budgets, assessment and evaluation of activities, developing and maintaining database systems, and ensuring excellent customer services with all constituents, will oversee and provide direct counseling services (individual, couples and group), including emergency response as needed, oversee the development and maintenance of web page, online and print communications and technology related to the office needs, will serve on various University committees, including the Behavioral Evaluation Threat Assessment Committee (BETA), oversee the development and implementation of methods to evaluated departmental services that will inform the future delivery of programs and services, provide institutional leadership with regard to trends in student mental health and the mental health needs of UAHuntsville students.
Doctorate in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an APA accredited program.
Eligible for licensure within one year of appointment in the state of Alabama.
Five years of experience in a college/ university counseling center.
Significant clinical, supervisory, and administrative experience.
Previous leadership within a Student Affairs division.
Crisis response training.
An appreciation and understanding of diversity, multicultural, and international populations.
Excellent presentation skills.
Experience with Titanium scheduler and grant writing.
