Job Description:
Under the direction of the Director of University Counseling Services, this individual serves as the primary administrator and sole clinician for the Staten Island Center. The Associate Director provides a significant amount of direct service including counseling, assessment, and crisis intervention. In addition, this individual also works closely with the Staten Island student affairs and academic community to provide consultation, training, and outreach programming.

This individual will provide overall administrative oversight for the Center including implementation of Center policy, budget management, and insuring that all operations of the Center follow appropriate federal and state mental health law and are in compliance with the standards of the American Psychological Association and other relevant professional organizations.

This person must be currently licensed to practice in New York State. It is also strongly preferred that candidates have prior work and or training experience in a university mental health setting.

Additional responsibilities include:
• Consult with faculty and staff on issues relevant to student academic performance, emotional well-being, and psychological functioning.
• Provide assessment and recommendations for appropriate treatments for students.
• Offer crisis intervention for students in emergency situations and participate in the Center’s on-call after-hours rotation.
• Provide referral services to outside therapists, clinics, and treatment facilities.
• Maintain timely and accurate records according to professional standards and state and federal mental health law.
• Offer consultation and education to faculty and staff regarding student behavioral and emotional issues, classroom concerns, and current mental health issues.
• Conduct psychological evaluations for the assessment of learning disabilities
• Respond to requests for classroom participation by faculty, as well as requests for information/reports from the community regarding services and resources.
• Provide workshops and outreach to all members of the University community.
• Engage in outcomes assessment with individual clients and center goals.

Minimum Qualifications
• A doctoral degree in Clinical or Counseling psychology and must be currently licensed to practice in the State of New York.
• Two to five years of post-graduate experience, preferably including prior work or training experience in a counseling center setting.
• Past experience working with the college-aged population, including a strong knowledge of the challenges experienced by young adults, preferred.
• Knowledge of and demonstrated competence and sensitivity in working with a multi-cultural population.
• Strong diagnostic and therapeutic skills, particularly using short-term treatment interventions.
• Demonstrated commitment to the highest ethical standards of professional practice, as well as personal and professional integrity.
• Ability to collaborate with other departments and college administrators.
• Strong crisis assessment and crisis management skills.
• Excellent organizational, communication and human relations skills.

• This position is subject to a comprehensive background screen, with employment contingent upon satisfactory results. If access to a University vehicle is required for the position, a DMV check for driving record and valid driver’s license is also required.
