Position Description
The Counseling Center provides high quality individual and group counseling services to students that may be experiencing psychological or behavioral difficulties that interfere with their academic and/or personal success. The Director leads and oversees all activities and staff including clinical, outreach, budgetary, and office functions. The Director is informed by, and utilizes, best and emerging practices to ensure exceptional services, and fosters partnerships with key campus and community stakeholders that result in improved delivery of services and programs that meet the ongoing needs of students, the campus, and the community. The Director provides vision, leadership, and coordination of counseling services; provides individual client and/or student care and crisis/liaison services, including regular intervention with emergency and highly acute client situations; and provides a welcoming, student-centered, compassionate atmosphere for students in need of personal support. The Director assures that planning, policy development and implementation, and systematic evaluation and assessment of program performance is regularly performed. The Director maintains a caseload of student clients; supervises clinical and support staff; and ensures that the Counseling Center is effectively meeting the counseling needs of students. Consultative services to the institution and local community enhance the educational, emotional and physical development of the student population and the campus. Reporting to the Vice President for Student Affairs, the Director works collaboratively with Student Affairs colleagues, other administrators, staff, faculty, and student leaders in the provision of high-quality services that are both holistic and responsive in addressing students’ mental health needs.
Provides direct clinical services, clinical and administrative supervision; ensures proactive education and prevention outreach activities; and participates in crisis management and provides psychological consultation services
Minimum Qualifications
Doctoral degree in psychology, counseling, social work, or closely related mental health field required.
Five years experience in counseling or mental health setting required.
License or license eligible as psychologist or clinical social worker.
Desired Qualifications
One year experience in college mental health setting preferred.
