Position Description
Reed College seeks a part time mental health clinician with specialty focus on alcohol and other drug use and misuse. This regular, ongoing .5 FTE position is a 24 hour per week (3 days), 10-month, benefited position begins August 1 and continues through May 31. The MHC-AOD specialist works within Reed’s Health and Counseling Center and provides direct clinical service to Reed College students, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health problems, including AOD education and intervention. Primary responsibilities include: mental health assessments; crisis intervention; individual and group counseling/psychotherapy; individual and group interventions related to substance use and abuse, with a focus on prevention and harm reduction; providing pharmacological interventions (if appropriately licensed); and responding to students with urgent and emergent needs, both when in the clinic and while on call.

Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Masters or doctoral degree in clinical psychology, counseling psychology, social work, nursing or closely related field. Licensed or license-eligible within 6 months as a mental health professional in the State of Oregon. Demonstrated interest in the assessment, prevention, and treatment of substance use disorders from a harm reduction model as well as demonstrated interest and skill in outreach programming and consultation. Skill and experience in use of motivational interviewing and enhancement techniques preferred. Must demonstrate a broad understanding of human behavior and be able to provide a variety of psychological interventions. A commitment to the value of diversity is required.

Desired Qualifications
Qualified candidates will have current knowledge and skill to obtain and interpret a mental health history and assessment and skill in use of evidence based approaches for diagnosing and treating psychological disorders in college-aged adults. Candidates must also have demonstrated interest and expertise in the assessment, prevention, and treatment of substance use disorders from a harm reduction model, as well as demonstrated interest and skill in outreach programming and consultation. Proficiency in use of accepted psychotherapeutic techniques and ability to develop therapeutic relationships with students is required, as is understanding of the range of developmental issues for college-aged students. Qualified candidates will have demonstrated effective working relationships with a multidisciplinary team of health professionals. The HCC strives to evaluate, maintain, and promote the general health of students so that they may make the most of their academic experience.
