Position Summary:
The Counseling and Wellness therapist is administratively responsible through the Associate Director of Clinical Services to the Director of Counseling and Wellness Services. He/She is professional licensed or license eligible to practice social work or equivalent degree in the State of North Carolina. The licensed therapist provides individual and group therapy and assessment; supervision and training of social work students if appropriate; outreach programming; crisis intervention, including daytime and evening weekend on-call services. Case management for clients of concern, consultation with members of the University community and participation on counseling related campus committees is also expected. The social worker plays an important role in health education, especially through individual contacts with student clientele.
Education Requirements:
Relevant professional and educational credentials and licensure in clinical field of social work or mental health practice as deemed appropriate by the Department Head.
Qualification and Experience:
Board eligibility for licensure by the North Carolina Board of Social Work or equivalent licensure board. Full licensure is expected. Employees who have just completed their training will be given adequate time to prepare and achieve licensure. Individual must have: current knowledge in depth of his her field and its standards of practice; commitment to the practice of quality mental health services including a commitment to human value in that practice; special interest in the University setting and the processes of maturation which occur during college years, undergraduate and graduate; ability to work with other professional staff and support staff to produce integrated professional services; understanding of issues of diversity with demonstrated leadership and effectiveness in promoting respect and appreciation for diversity and pluralism among students and staff; ability to utilize technology in the delivery of student programs.
