Position Description
The TWU Counseling Center is looking for an enthusiastic and energetic staff or licensed psychologist to join our team. TWU is the largest university primarily for women in the United States and serves a diverse population of motivated, non-traditionally aged students.
The Staff Psychologist or Licensed Psychologist is under the general supervision of the Director of the Counseling Center. This individual would play a critical role in supporting university and Counseling Center outreach efforts promoting diversity awareness and appreciation, including but not limited to presenting on topics such as ethnic/racial differences, sexual orientation, social economic class, and gender. In addition to the duties noted above, this position regularly includes: intakes, individual, couples, group, and crisis intervention counseling to students experiencing social, emotional, and vocational difficulties; clinical supervision of interns and/or practicum students as appropriate and assigned; supervision of psychological assessment; and outreach to the campus community. On a less regular basis, the position also includes consultation with faculty, staff and students.
All staff are expected to maintain their professional licenses by engaging in state-required continuing education activities. Involvement in local, state, regional and national professional organizations, including attendance and presentation of programs and workshops, as negotiated with the Director, is also encouraged.
Minimum Qualifications
To qualify for the Staff Psychologist position, candidates must have a doctorate in counseling or clinical psychology and eligibility for licensure as a psychologist in Texas. If the position is accepted, the Staff Psychologist must become licensed as a psychologist in Texas within 18 months. Licensed Psychologist applicants must have a current psychology license and become licensed as a psychologist in Texas within 12 months of obtaining the position (if licensure is held in another state).
Desired Qualifications
Counseling Center experience and an active commitment to college counseling services and a strong commitment to multicultural and women’s issues is preferred. A preference will also be given to candidates who have some experience with diversity programming and training, supervision of practicum students or interns, knowledge of psychological assessment, 1-2 years of counseling center experience, and excellent oral and written communication skills.

TWU’s Denton Counseling Center staff is currently composed of a director, an assistant director/director of training, 3 psychologists, 3 psychology interns (APA-accredited internship program), 4 practicum students, and 2 administrative staff. The TWU Counseling Center provides services which help students to achieve their educational goals, to learn the process of problem solving and decision making, to develop the capacity for satisfying relationships, and to make full use of their potential for continued growth beyond their educational experience. It is the only campus agency designated to provide psychological services solely to students. Region Description
TWU’s Denton campus, located 35 miles north of the Dallas-Ft. Worth metroplex, serves as the main campus. The D/FW area provides a wealth of cultural and recreational opportunities within easy reach and access. In addition, our airport provides the opportunity to fly to many places in the United States and abroad non-stop, making travel easier and more accessible.
