Position Description
University Health Services (UHS) at Princeton University is a fully accredited health care facility that provides services to undergraduate and graduate students and University employees who experience work-related injuries and illnesses. Counseling and Psychological Services (CPS) is a multidisciplinary mental health unit within UHS.

CPS is looking for an experienced Clinical Psychologist who will directly report to the Director, and perform clinical and administrative duties with the potential to join the CPS leadership team. The clinician will provide direct clinical services to our undergraduate and graduate student population, including urgent care and crisis intervention, psychological evaluations, time-limited individual and group psychotherapeutic treatment, on call services, campus liaison and mental health education, and community referral services. In addition, the clinician will demonstrate an ability to provide oversight and coordination of one or more of the systems and processes in the clinic. These include the urgent care system (that provides triage, evaluation, and clinical care services for high risk and emergent cases), decanal consultations (which provide appropriate consultations to the Office of the Dean of Undergraduate Students (ODUS), the Directors of Student Life (DSL), and the Graduate School (GS)), the post graduate fellowship program, the effective management of daily clinical operations, and/or development of new clinical services in response to changing needs of the student body.


This position combines essential clinical and administrative responsibilities. The clinician will collaborate closely with his or her colleagues and be committed to carrying out the multi-faceted mission of CPS. In addition, the clinician will be well-versed in the area of cultural competence in the provision of such services.

- The candidate will be a seasoned clinician, possessing sound clinical skills and specialized knowledge in certain relevant content areas, such as, but not limited to, eating disorders, attention and learning disabilities, substance abuse, severe personality and identity problems, and disturbances in behavioral and affect regulation. This particular skill and knowledge set will be informed by a strong understanding of the full range of developmental and mental health challenges affecting late adolescents and young adults. The ability to deal effectively with college-age populations, international students, parents, faculty, and college administrators is also essential.

- The candidate will work collaboratively with a diverse group of mental health clinicians. The candidate must be an experienced supervisor of mental health professionals and be able to provide effective consultations to colleagues, trainees and the multidisciplinary teams at CPS.

- The candidate will be experienced and trained in managing psychological emergencies both during office hours and after hours. The candidate will need to work well under pressure, demonstrating the ability to prioritize and manage multiple clinical situations and collaborate with others in crisis management.

- CPS is an increasingly networked computer environment, and the candidate must be highly computer literate, and willing to take the initiative in planning and instituting CPS data management activities.

- The candidate will also demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with and provide culturally informed health care to multiple and diverse undergraduate and graduate student groups. It is important for the candidate to be sensitive to the manifestations of psychological problems across different cultural backgrounds, identity configurations, and genders, and to help CPS develop systems and practices that enhance.

Minimum Qualifications
The following skills and education are required:

- A doctorate in clinical psychology from an American Psychological Association (APA)-approved doctoral program is required. Completion of APA-approved clinical internship is also required. Candidates will possess New Jersey psychology licensure or be license-eligible in the state of New Jersey.

- A minimum of two years supervised clinical internships/fellowships, and five years of post-doctoral clinical experience is required.

- Evidence of experience in working with severely troubled patients and/or on a psychiatric inpatient unit, or the functional equivalent, is required.

- Demonstrated competence in managing after-hours on-call responsibilities, assessing the need for psychiatric hospitalization, handling psychiatric emergencies, and supervising referral for inpatient care is required.

- Demonstrated competence in the following is also required:
a) Providing clinical and organizational supervision and consultations; b)Ethical clinical practice; c) Effective coordination activities and collaboration with a variety of stakeholders.

Desired Qualifications
The following skills and education are recommended:

- Prior supervisory experience managing mental health professionals strongly preferred.
- Prior experience in clinical administrative areas, such as policy development, team coordination, urgent care coordination, and high risk psychological evaluations is strongly recommended.
- Prior experience working in a university mental health service or a comparable healthcare system is strongly recommended.
- Advanced training in clinical practice and supervision is recommended.
- Expertise in the area of clinical research, such as data collection, management, and assessment that can be applied to CPS quality improvement initiatives is recommended.
