Position Description
The Senior Counselor provides clinical services (individual, group counseling, and crisis intervention) for culturally and ethnically diverse University Students primarily in the areas of sexual and domestic/relationship violence. Maintains current, accurate documentation and meets NY State, federal (e.g. HIPAA) and accreditation standards in all areas. The incumbent will provide advocacy for student survivors of sexual violence within the Campus community, provide consultation to faculty and staff on matters of sexual/domestic violence, act as liaison with other Campus departments and community agencies to enhance sexual/domestic violence prevention and outreach work on Campus. The Senior Counselor will also plan, design, implement, and evaluate outreach programs for the University community, student groups, campus offices, and departments, and write grants to identify and compete for external funding sources, which will aid in the development and implementation of sexual assault prevention and outreach programs for the Stony Brook University community.

Minimum Qualifications
The selection for this position will be made from the fields of Clinical or Counseling Psychology or Clinical Social Work. The minimum required education in Psychology is an earned Ph.D. or Psy.D. awarded by an academic program accredited by the American Psychological Association, or the minimum required education in Social Work is the M.S.W. degree with specialization in Clinical Social Work, Clinical Practice, or Mental Health. The minimum on-the-job experience required by the date of employment for the Ph.D./Psy.D. Psychologist is one year of supervised clinical work after completion of a full-time, 12 month Psychology internship (either pre or postdoctoral degree work experience.) The minimum on-the-job experience required for the M.S.W. social worker is three years of post-degree supervised clinical work experience (either pre or post the C.S.W. certification.)
Three years of full-time post-master’s degree work experience in counseling clients, including one year full-time experience providing counseling services to survivors of sexual assault and domestic/relationship violence. The candidate must demonstrate cultural competence in working with culturally/ethnically diverse populations.
Strong knowledge of best practices in relation to treatment and prevention of sexual violence. Strong clinical skills, including at least one year of full time experience conducting intakes (DSM-IV), emergency assessments and

The ability to work at a quick pace and handle spontaneous work demands while completing projects that require advance planning. The ability to provide culturally competent treatment within a setting that serves a diverse student population. The ability to maintain current, accurate documentation and meet all NY State, federal (HIPAA) regulations, and accreditation standards in all areas. LCSW/Psychology eligible in NY and licensed within one year.

Desired Qualifications
Ph.D., Psy.D., Prior work experience in a university or college counseling or student health setting. Experience with design and implementation of outreach programming. Bilingual in Spanish or any Asian language. Experience with grant writing and research design to include knowledge of needs assessment, research methods, program planning, writing, statistical methods, outcome evaluation.

The campus spreads out over 1,100 heavily wooded acres on Long Island’s north shore. The University is less than sixty miles from Manhattan, which is easily accessible by train or car, yet the tranquility of Long Island’s rural areas and seashores are nearby.
