Staff Mental Health Clinician (60%, 10 months)
University Health Services (UHS), located in the McCosh Health Center, is a fully accredited health care facility that provides comprehensive health services to Princeton undergraduate and graduate students and services for Princeton University employees who experience work-related injuries and illnesses.

Reporting to the Director of Counseling and Psychological Services (CPS), the Staff Mental Health Clinician is a clinical or counseling psychologist who provides urgent care and crisis intervention, psychological and psycho-diagnostic evaluations, and time-limited individual and group psychotherapeutic treatment, campus liaison and mental health education, and community referral services to our undergraduate and graduate student population.

The position’s primary responsibility is the provision of direct clinical services, with these services usually representing at least 65% of all duty time during business hours. Also, UHS has an active Inpatient Service that provides 24 hour health coverage. As such, this mental health position involves the provision of primary after-hours, on-call coverage, assigned at the discretion of the CPS Director.

The clinician will possess sophisticated diagnostic skills and specialized knowledge in certain content areas, such as substance abuse, eating disorders, severe personality and identity problems, and affect regulation disturbances and will demonstrate training and experience in the use of specialized treatments that are professionally recognized as effective for these content areas e.g. DBT for affect and behavior regulation, CBT for anxiety disorders etc.. The particular skill and knowledge set will be informed by a strong understanding of the full range of developmental and mental health challenges affecting late adolescents and young adults.

Minimum Qualifications
Doctorate in clinical, clinical/community, or counseling psychology or in a related field, from American Psychological Association (APA)-approved doctoral programs is required. Completion of APA-approved clinical internship is also required. Candidates will possess psychology licensure or be license-eligible in the state of New Jersey.

A minimum of two years supervised clinical internships/fellowships is required and preference will be given to those with at least three years of independent psychotherapy experience are required.

Evidence of experience working with severely troubled patients and/or on a psychiatric inpatient unit, or the functional equivalent, is required.

Demonstrated competence in crisis intervention and managing after-hours, on-call responsibilities, assessing need for psychiatric hospitalization, handling psychiatric emergencies, and supervising referral for inpatient care is required.

Demonstrated excellence in using an evidence-based approach to psycho-diagnosis and treatment, including mastery of DSM-IV-TR nomenclature, and in understanding best practices in diagnostic evaluations and time-limited psychotherapy is required.

The selected candidate must demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with and provide culturally informed health care to multiple and diverse undergraduate and graduate student groups. That is, it is important for the candidate to be sensitive to the manifestations of psychological problems across different cultural backgrounds, identity configurations, and genders. The ability to deal effectively with college-age populations, international students, parents, faculty, and college administrators is also essential.

Desired Qualifications
Prior experience working in a university mental health service or a comparable healthcare system is strongly recommended.

Prior experience in clinical administrative areas, such as policy development, urgent care coordination, and high risk psychological evaluations is recommended.

Additional training in the psychological care of late adolescents and young adults with the following subspecialties?substance abuse, multicultural psychology, group psychotherapy, campus outreach planning and implementation--is recommended.

Expertise in the area of clinical research, such as data collection, management, and assessment that can be applied to CPS quality improvement initiatives is recommended.

Training and experience in short-term models of treatment is recommended.
