Position Description
Loyola University Maryland Counseling Center seeks a full-time Assistant Director for Extern Training for our Counseling Center. This is a 12-month position that is responsible for coordination of Counseling Center’s Extern Program for second and third year graduate students in psychology and pastoral counseling. The Extern Program falls under the Center’s larger training program which also includes two Postdoctoral Fellows. This position offers opportunities for creative leadership, challenging clinical cases, and strong collaborative relationships, within a small, liberal arts university, in the Jesuit tradition. The successful candidate for this position will join a cohesive and diverse professional staff in demonstrating excellence in clinical skills, multicultural competence, creative psycho-educational and preventive programming, and administrative abilities.
Clinical responsibilities include:
Psychological evaluations, brief individual and group counseling, crisis intervention/on-call rotation, caseload management, supervision of Postdoctoral Fellows and Externs.
Administrative responsibilities include:
Under the administrative supervision of the Associate Director for Training, responsibilities include the coordination of a comprehensive Externship Program. Our Externs provide brief psychotherapy, receive individual supervision, and participate in the weekly Extern Case Conference and Identity Exploration Seminar. The Identity Exploration Seminar deals with how awareness about, understanding of, and comfort with the intersection of our various cultural identities impacts us personally and professionally. The Assistant Director coordinates the yearly recruitment and selection process for Externs, which includes communication with area academic programs, advertisement, and scheduling of interviews. The Assistant Director also coordinates a campus orientation for Externs, training seminars, and clinical supervision provided by professional staff and Postdoctoral Fellows and often co-facilitates the Identity Exploration Seminar with the Associate Director for Training.
Minimum Qualifications
Doctorate in Counseling or Clinical Psychology, at least 3 years of post-licensed clinical experience in a university counseling center. Immediate eligibility for licensure as a psychologist in Maryland is required. Requires strong interest and competence in clinical assessment and brief psychotherapy, and significant demonstrated competency in supervision and training of graduate students in psychology.
Desired Qualifications
5 years preferred clinical experience in a unversity counseling center.

Region Description
