Position Description
This is a full-time, career position. Schedule of hours is Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Periodic evening and weekend hours will be required.
The budgeted monthly starting salary range for this position is $4,451- $5,461.
Essential Functions:
The Substance Abuse Clinician (counseling psychologist II) provides psychological service to the UCR campus. The primary responsibility of the substance abuse clinician is to provide individual, couple, and group therapy, with an emphasis on substance abuse interventions, to UCR students.
The clinician also provides crisis intervention services; consults with students, staff, and faculty; provides Intern supervision/training; develops substance abuse workshops/presentations and serves on University committees.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
M.A/M.S., Ph.D./Psy.D. in clinical or counseling psychology, or MSW. California LMFT, LCSW, or Psychologist license or California licensure within six months of employment.
Two to three years post-graduate work experience, including providing alcohol and other drug abuse and dependence intervention services, preferably to college age populations.
Previous counseling center experience.
Demonstrated experience providing short-term individual, couple and group therapy, including individuals with dual diagnoses.
Training and experience in counseling interventions and outreach programs related to substance abuse and dependence, and other clinical issues.
Demonstrated experience providing outreach programs in area of specialty and general mental health topics.
Demonstrated experience conducting intake assessments, emergency assessments and providing crisis intervention.
Demonstrated experience training paraprofessionals in basic helping skills.
Interest and experience in developing substance abuse prevention and awareness programs in alliance with other campus departments and offices.
Interest and experience working with residence hall community.
Demonstrated experience working as a team.
Knowledge of the developmental issues of college student populations.
Knowledge of multicultural issues impacting the counseling process.
Knowledge and ability to use computer applications, including on-line information technology and electronic recordkeeping.
Demonstrated knowledge of professional standards, relevant laws and accreditation standards for university counseling centers.
Knowledge of and /or experience interpreting psychological and vocational tests.
Demonstrated ability to effectively use interpersonal skills while representing the department on-campus and to external units.
Ability to work under pressure.
Hired applicant must successfully pass a background check through the Department of Justice.
Desired Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications:
Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor and/or Certified Alcohol and Drug Addition Counselor (CADAC) credential(s).
Interest in, and experience with intern supervision and training.
Excellent presentation and training skills.
