The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine’s mission is to provide excellent teaching, research, patient care and community service and to meet the health needs of Kansas and the community at large. Faculty Promotion

Da Zhang, MD, MScThe Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine is pleased to announce the promotion of Da Zhang, MD, MSc to Associate Professor of Pathology effective July 1, 2011. Dr. Zhang's promotion was announced formally at the University of Kansas Medical Center's Promotions and Tenure dinner held May 24, 2011. Dr. Zhang has been with the department nearly six years, providing special services in Renal Pathology, Hematopathology and General/Surgical pathology. He is currently publishing articles and writing a hematopathology text.

Welcome to New Faculty

The Department is proud to announce the appointment of two new faculty members to our ranks effective fall, 2011.

Janet Woodroof, MD, KUMC Pathology & Laboratory MedicineThe Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine announces the addition of Janet Woodroof, MD to its faculty ranks effective September 1, 2011. Dr. Woodroof is an associate professor and will serve as Associate Director of the Medical Laboratories. She is a Kansas City native and was a staff pathologist at KU briefly, then at Physicians Reference Laboratory in Overland Park, Kansas for 13 years. Her clinical interests include Hematopathology, Surgical Pathology, Breast Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.

Dr. Woodroof graduated from the University of Missouri with a BS in Medical Technology, followed with a degree in Medicine from the University of Kansas. She was awared the Alpha Omega Alpha award while in medical School. She completed her pathology residency in our department, serving as Chief Resident her senior year and as Surgical Pathology Fellow. She is board certified in Hematopathology, Anatomic Pathology and Clinical Pathology.
