Peltier Lectureship, Research Day, and Annual Reunion

The sixth annual Peltier Lectureship, Research Day, and Alumni Reunion will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2009 from 7:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. with lunch to follow.  The meeting will be held in the Clendening Auditorium at KUMC on the 2nd floor of Robinson Bldg.

Dr. Laurence E. Dahners, Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill will be our 13th Peltier Lecturer.  Dr. Dahners was a graduate of our residency program in 1983 and we are very happy to have him back in Kansas City.  

The Residents’ Graduation and Alumni Dinner will follow that evening at the Carriage Club, 5301 State Line Road, Kansas City, Missouri.

On Friday afternoon, June 26th, our annual golf tournament for residents, faculty, and alumni will be held at St. Andrews Golf Club, 11099 West 135th Street, Overland Park, Kansas.

Overview
This health care program provides a forum for senior resident presentations of completed research projects and junior resident presentations of unique orthopedic cases.  In addition, this year’s guest lecturer presentation will be on surgical site infections and the operative management of clavicle fractures.

Target Audience
This symposium is designed for KU Orthopedic faculty, residents, and alumni, as well as orthopedic surgeons in the Kansas City community.

Objectives
At the completion of this symposium participants should be able to:

  • Assess the indications and complications of external suction dressings for orthopedic wounds
  • Compare the risks and benefits of locally administered antibiotics in the prevention of surgical site wounds
  • Evaluate the biomechanics and outcomes of intramedullary nailing of clavicle fractures.
  • Integrate knowledge of unique orthopedic cases seen in clinical practice into patient care to improve patient outcomes.
  • Apply knowledge of current research development in orthopedics at KUMC to patient care
