When to apply: At least eight weeks prior to the rotation.
How to apply: Complete the “Request to Take a Required Clerkship at a Location Other Than KUMC” and submit to the Clerkship Coordinator. The Coordinator will investigate availability, and if available, will obtain approval from the Clerkship Director.

Length of rural rotation: Students can complete the first three weeks or the last three weeks of the rotation at a rural location.

Southwest Region:
Dodge City (Student must have own housing), Liberal

Eastern Region:
Chanute, Pittsburg, Junction City (Student must have own housing), Coffeyville

Southcentral:
Hutchinson (student must have own housing)
When to apply: Students should submit their request forms 8 weeks prior to the rotation start. If more than one student is interested in a particular site then a lottery will decide who will get to go. After the first day of classes, rural rotations will be assigned on a first-come, first-serve basis.
How to apply: Complete the “Request to Take a Required Clerkship at a Location Other Than KUMC” and submit to the Clerkship Coordinator. The Coordinator will obtain the Clerkship Director’s approval and forward the form to the Interdisciplinary and Outreach Coordinator.

Eligibility Students must have successfully completed at least one clinical rotation to be eligible. Also, the student (or rural site) must have high quality, reliable internet access.
Expectations The medical student will attend the orientation session (on the first day of the Pediatric 900 rotation) at KUMC prior to going to the rural location. During the rural rotation, the medical student is expected to read at least ½ of the USMLE Step 2 & 3, Blueprints in Pediatrics and Blackwell’s Underground Clinical.
Vignettes Also, at least ½ of the Clinical Vignettes and Average Age at Diagnosis (on the Pediatrics medical student web site) will be completed during the rural rotation.
