The Kansas University, School of Medicine would like to invite you to participate in our Health Careers Pathways Program (HCPP). This program, open to African American, Hispanic, Native American, Southeast Asian, and rural students, is designed to prepare and support your pursuit toward a medical career.
The Pre-Admissions Program (PAP) provides students ready for to take the MCAT an opportunity to review and assistance with the application process which includes mock interviews, shadowing, and AMCAS assistance. The University of Kansas Post-Baccalaureate Program is a thirteen-month program that begins at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, and ends with the Pre-Matriculation Program at the University of Kansas, School of Medicine in Kansas City. Activities include diagnostic testing with personalized skill development counseling, supplemental instruction, and mentoring. The academic curriculum focuses on upper level science courses.
All educational materials are provided free of charge. The program charges no tuition and transportation or reimbursement for travel is included. Each student recieves $40 a day and guaranteed an interview with Kansas University, School of Medicine. Housing is available on the University of Kansas, Lawrence campus.
ACADEMIC YEAR ACTIVITIES
Satellite Centers
Designed to serve both high school and collegiate health care aspirants, Satellite Centers operate throughout the academic year on the campuses of the University of Kansas (Lawrence, Kansas), Kansas State University (Manhattan, Kansas), and Wichita State University (Wichita, Kansas).
At the high school level the Satellite Center Counselor oversees the administration of interest inventories and the establishment of health careers clubs within local high schools. High school health careers club members participate in field trips and seminars.
Satellite Center services to collegians include the organization of pre-professional societies, semiannual information seminars, semiannual site visitations, academic counseling, and MCAT workshops.

Pre-Admissions Program
APPLICATION
Pre-Admissions Program (PDF) -For students who have completed organic chemistry and physics and plan to take the MCAT and apply to medical school within a year. Health Careers Pathways Program Instructions (Word document)
PAP is designed to facilitate the entry of minority/disadvantaged students into the Kansas University, Medical School. Students will participate in an eight-week program designed to strengthen their academic competitiveness.
Students enrolled in the PAP will prepare for taking the MCAT examination. Students will participate in an MCAT preparation program and will also attend the reading/writing laboratory which is designed to enhance reading/writing skills. Students who have taken the MCAT and whose scores indicate no additional help is warranted will be involved in a program that will include clinical and research experiences.

This program has been funded by a grant from the US Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Disadvantaged Assistance and the University of Kansas Medical Center. It is offered at no cost to the student.
