Kelly E. Lyons, Ph.D.

Research Associate Professor

lyonsDr. Lyons completed her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Master of Arts degree in Psychology at the University of Kansas in Lawrence. She received her Ph.D. in Experimental and Cognitive Psychology with a concentration in Gerontology from the University of Kansas in 1993. She completed a fellowship in neurodegenerative disorders in the Parkinson's Disease Center at the University of Kansas Medical Center.

In 1995 she became an Instructor in the Department of Neurology and a Research Assistant Professor from 1998-2000. Dr. Lyons then served as a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurology at the University of Miami Medical Center in Miami, Florida from 2000-2003. Dr. Lyons re-joined the faculty in the Department of Neurology at the University of Kansas Medical Center in 2003 as a Research Associate Professor and Director of Research for the Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorder Center.

Dr. Lyons' primary area of research is in Parkinson's disease, deep brain stimulation, and essential tremor. She has over 150 articles and presentations in this area. She is a co-editor of the Handbook of Parkinson's disease, 3rd edition and a co-author of the book Parkinson's Disease: Questions and Answers, 4th edition. Dr. Lyons is a member of the board of directors of the Parkinson Foundation of the Heartland, Secretary and Treasurer of the Tremor Research Group, First Vice President of the International Essential Tremor Foundation and a member of the Movement Disorder Society Education Committee.
