Network Development Overview
Infrastructure
The KUMC Ethernet network is a routed and switched environment. Medium
or high-speed network access is available to over 4,800 workstations
and servers located in 35 campus buildings.
Wide Area Network
KUMCs network has links to a number of remote sites in the
Kansas City area and throughout the state of Kansas, including T-1
connectivity to
KUMCs wide area network also includes ISDN connections to several
local outpatient clinics.
Internet Connectivity
KUMC pays for and maintains campus connectivity to Internet
2 through KANREN and the Great Plains Network. Currently KUMCs
Internet access is via a DS-3 (45 Megabits per second) connection.
Supported Network Operating Systems
The KUMC network has approximately 75 servers providing access to
electronic mail, web-based programs/materials, file/print services,
and client/server based applications. 60 percent of the servers at
KUMC run NetWare, 30 percent run Windows NT, and the remaining 10
percent are Unix-based (primarily Sun Solaris and Linux). KUMC actively
supports campus-wide applications of NT Domain service and Novell
Directory Services (NDS).
