The Program
The Nurse-Midwifery Education Program was established at The University of Kansas School of Nursing in 1999 with federal funds totaling $1.3 million. The program is accredited by the Division of Accreditation of the American College of Nurse-Midwives, 8403 Colesville Rd, Suite 1550, Silver Springs, MD 20910-6374. Phone 240-485-1800.
The goal of this nurse-midwifery education program is to prepare master's level certified nurse-midwives to provide pregnancy and well-woman care to a full range of culturally diverse women in the Greater Kansas City area and the state of Kansas, especially to women who are medically underserved. Priority recruitment is given to candidates living in or willing to work in underserved areas or in other areas with critical maternal and infant indicators. The first class of midwifery students started in the summer of 2000 and graduated in the summer of 2001.
