Practice Development & Alumni News:

  • Karen Mull, CNM (class 02) has joined Barb Parker, CNM (class 01) in private practice in Rockford, IL.
  • Susan Cohen, GNM (class 03) has joined the CNMs at Women’s Care in Overland Park, KS: Judie Wika, CNM (also senior faculty of this education program) and Jeane Schroeder, CNM and Samantha Petersen, CNM (both from class 02).
  • Cathy Gordon, FNP, NM (class 03) has received the KSNA volunteer of the year award (see What’s New section). Cathy also is working to purchase the Bethany Medical Center to establish a faith-based community health initiative and birth center.
  • Kelly Fritz, CNM (class 03) is working in Topeka, KS at the Birth & Women’s Center, a free standing birth center.
  • Ann Wright, CNM (class 03) has been granted hospital privileges as the first CNM to serve women in Emporia, KS at Newman Hospital. (See What’s New section)
  • Terrah Pendarvis, GNM (class 04) has been granted hospital privileges and is the first nurse midwife to serve women in Junction City, KS. She has delivered 8 babies including a set of twins. (See What’s New section.)

Faculty News:

  • Denise Fryzelka, CNM was recently awarded an ACNM Foundation Scholarship to attend the Eighth Annual Midwifery Business Institute in Ann Arbor, MI in November. Three, $1,000 awards were given nationally. Congratulations Denise!

Events & Activities:

  • Class 2003 program completers took the ACNM ACC national board exam on October 17th at KUSON. KU now has 17 graduate nurse midwives since the program began in 1999.
  • Celebration of ACNM Nurse Midwifery Week was October 5th-11th, 2003. The mayor of Overland Park, KS signed a proclamation with the CNMs of Women’s Care (See photo in What’s New section)
  • March of Dimes National Prematurity Awareness Day, November 18th, click on www.marchofdimes.com to learn more about how YOU can support this cause. Consider volunteering to work with the local MOD office by calling 816.561.0175 to speak to a staff member in the Greater Kansas Chapter
  • Check the ACNM website at www.midwife.org for information on professional activities, scholarships, jobs, political action initiatives, and other helpful information
  • Local V-18 ACNM Chapter Meetings: First Wednesday of each month, contact Suzanne Bentley CNM, President, for information and location
