Midwifery Class One: Program Completion
Preparation for the Midwifery Completion Ceremony is underway. Barb Parker, Class 1 representative is chairing the planning committee. Mark your calendar for Saturday, June 30th, from 10:00 - Noon at the Lied Atrium and Auditorium on the KUMC campus. We would like as many midwifery students as possible from all classes to attend and help celebrate and congratulate the first class of graduating midwives from the KU Bistate program. As this is a precedent setting event, all students interested in volunteering to assist in any way, including $$, volunteering at the reception table, creating gift ideas/symbols to give the graduates from the classes behind would be appreciated. The Greater Kansas City chapter of ACNM Region V-18 donated $100 to assist in the cost for the reception. We anticipate this to be a heartwarming celebration and launching for the 5 students, their families, friends, and preceptors.

Midwifery Class Two: Are you ready?
The second midwifery class of 7 begins on May 21st with a new tradition. This casual day will be full of relaxation, meeting new friends/classmates, and sharing the rich history and tradition of midwifery. Use of videos, story telling, relaxation techniques, and of course food, will be included. Bring your questions, excitement and fears, so we can address all the emotions you are filled with.

ACNM Convention
Washington D.C. June 1-7 is a time your staff and faculty will be gone. (Actually we would love to see you there!) Plan on attending next year. We'll talk about the importance of joining ACNM as a student member, and how important attending convention is, even as a student.

KUMC and Midwifery
Judie Wika and I have finally been approved by all the signatory powers from the OB department to have privileges for delivery and maternity care at the medical center. The medical staff office is very expeditiously processing our applications, and we hope to have a clinic going on campus very soon, with births to follow! This second class will have a historic impact on midwifery development and presence at the med center. Get ready for the ride; the highs and lows of seeing a new midwifery practice begin at a teaching hospital will be an extremely valuable experience to participate in. We are VERY excited, as well as ready for the challenges.
