Fall 2006
- Welcome to the incoming and continuing Nurse Midwifery Students at KU. The two cohorts of students include an ever-growing number of passionate students dedicated to our growing profession. Alumni and Faculty will be announcing a FALL party to bring together all the midwifery students for a fun and relaxing evening. Invitations will be sent.
- Class 06, students to graduate in Spring 07 includes: Melissa Curtice, Julie Smith, Denise Nickel, Jenny Swanson, Terri Jones, Kathy Wyer and Tammy Meisel (Kathy and Tammy are both post-masters students).
- Class 08, students in the “pipeline” enrolled in masters courses to graduate in Spring 09 (to date) include: Amber Tweedy, Bonnie Jackson, Amanda Winrow, Rachel Israel, Meredith Ricketts, Kim Shaw, and Kara Higgins. Look for your classmates as courses begin this fall.
- The KU Nurse Midwifery program is up for reaccredidation by the ACNM Division of Accreditation in spring 2007. Faculty and students will be busy preparing the self-evaluation report to submit, and planning for the on-site visit by two members of the ACNM Site Visitor team in early spring, more news to follow. If you are interested in working on committee’s to assist in our preparation, please contact one of the Nurse Midwifery faculty. Our goal is to achieve successful accreditation for the next 10 years.

- Congratulations to Elizabeth Itote, CNM (Class 05) who is now employed with the Physician and Midwife Collaborative Practice, PC in Alexandria, VA. You can learn more at: http://www.physiciansandmidwives.com/privacy.htm
- Congratulations to Kyanna (Class 04) and Kelly Kuntz on the birth of their daughter, Clare Ann Kuntz born May 24, 2006. Clare weighed 6lb 8 oz, 19 ½ inches and was attended with the loving support of classmate Cara Busenhart, CNM (Class 04).
- Susan Cohen, CNM (Class 03) is relocating to Palm Beach, FL. We wish her the best in their move to sunny Florida!
- Ginger Breedlove, PhD, CNM and program director was awarded the KU Chancellor’s Award for Outstanding Classroom Teaching this spring at the 2006 commencement ceremonies in Lawrence, KS. Thanks to Terrah Pendarvis Stroda, CNM (Class 03) for her leading efforts and work in promoting this prestigious nomination and award. - In November, 10-12, many CNM leaders will be in Kansas City to meet on various topics of interest to the profession. Our ACNM Chapter V-18 will be hosting some events. If you are interested in helping, please let one of the faculty members know of your interest! Also, the Kansas City V-18 Chapter meets monthly, and we would love to see students attend and participate in our activities. Many meetings are sponsored by Pharmaceuticals who provide great meals and educational information. You will be receiving e-mails to inform you about upcoming meetings as they are distributed. Once you join ($10) you can get on our mailing list. PLEASE consider this as an essential professional source of learning more about what it’s like to become a CNM.
