The
Mid-America Pediatric Environmental Health Specialty Unit (MAPEHSU) is one of 13
Pediatric Environmental Health Specialty Units (PEHSUs) located in the
continental United States and in Canada and Mexico. The PEHSU
Program was established in 1998 by the Association of Occupational and
Environmental Clinics (AOEC).
The goal of the PEHSU Program is to increase awareness and knowledge of
pediatric environmental health.
PEHSU sites receive their funding from the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency-Region 7 (EPA-7). Funds are administered through the AOEC. The objective of the PEHSU Program is to increase the knowledge base of pediatric environmental medicine for health professionals by providing a forum for collaboration of environmental specialists and pediatricians to combine their knowledge. The AOEC is a network of over 60 clinics in the
United States and Canada that evaluate and treat patients with occupational and
environmental exposures. The AOEC
is responsible for the overall management of PEHSU activities. |
