Stipend information is for the 2011-2012 fiscal year and may differ from future year’s stipends.

Benefits

Annual Educational Allowance, which residents can use toward educational items, travel for meetings or rotations and other residency related supplies.

USMLE/COMLEX Step 3: Department will reimburse for first attempt.

Orientation Allowance: $300 for time during orientation in June.

Board Preparation Allowance: PGY 3 Residents are given an additional $1,000 to be used toward a Board Preparation Course of their choosing.

Global Health: Up to $1000 of cumulative financial support for Global Health is available from the department during the residency, with submission of receipts.

Time Off: Residents are provided three weeks (15 working days) vacation and two weeks (10 working days) sick leave. Time off must be taken within the contract year.

Parking: The KU Pediatric Residency Program provides all pediatric residents with “red” parking.

Meals: The KU Pediatric Residency Program provides a catered lunch for residents during Thursday Core Lectures as well as on Friday Resident Conferences. For each in-house call, residents also receive a meal allowance of $16, which is put onto a meal card to be used in the hospital cafeteria.

Pediatric Medical Education Center (PMEC): This area is set up for residents and includes individual lockers, computers, a library resource center, kitchenette and communal area with couch.

Retreats/Social Events: The program hosts annual fun events such as the Resident Retreat, Welcome Barbeque, Winter Holiday Party and Graduation Dinner. There are also numerous annual Department of Pediatric events that the residents are encouraged to attend.

Licensing: The KU Pediatric Residency Program pays for each resident to receive a Kansas Post-Graduate Training License and a Missouri Contiguous License.

Life Support Training: The program pays for each resident to receive initial and renewal certification in Basic Life Support (BLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).

Membership to the American Academy of Pediatrics: Each resident is provided a resident membership to the AAP.

Health/Dental/Vision Insurance: Residents are offered health, dental and vision insurance through the State of Kansas Employees Group Health Insurance. Premiums for dependent health insurance coverage is paid for with Kansas Legislature appropriated funds.

Long-term Disability Insurance, Workers’ Compensation & Professional Liability Insurance (for residency activities) is provided for all residents.
